Pest control on your plants
- Your plants bug and disease problems are kept in control using an
integrated pest management program. This means that technicians are
trained in how to keep plants healthy. Staff learns to identify bugs and
then apply the appropriate treatment when they do appear. 99% of the
time, the appropriate treatment is to wipe the bugs off and thoroughly
clean the plant. Preventative pesticide sprays are not a part of your pest
control program. The products we use when they are needed are low
impact
- Silicone plant shine for everyday problems
- Horticultural oil for scale
- Insecticidal soap for aphids
- Gnatrol for fungus gnats
Reduce, reuse and recycle
- All plant waste and plants that are no longer useable are composted in the city's
compost program
- All waste generated in our office is separated by type and recycled, composted or
trashed appropriately.
- We use recycled paper in our printers and use email and online communications
when appropriate to save resources.
- While indoor plantings don't require a lot of water in comparison to other activities,
we use the following water conservation practices:
- hoses and water delivery systems are fixed or replaced when they leak
- We would be delighted to specify low water use plants for your design
needs.
- Each plant is checked to see if it needs water versus automatic watering.
- Employees are encouraged to use public transportation and bicycles when
appropriate and possible for service routes.
- The majority of our clients are on a biweekly service schedule which reduces car
trips and carbon emissions
- Instead of chatkes for client anniversaries this year we are having a drawing every
month among renewing clients. $25 is given to the winning clients charity!
Our 2009 goals!
- We are researching locally grown plants to
supplement the plants currently used in interior
environments. Most of the plants used in our
industry are tropical. They are grown in California,
Florida and Hawaii and shipped here. By utilizing
locally grown plants, we can reduce the amount
of carbon introduced into the atmosphere
through transportation.
- We are looking for additional planter sources that
incorporate recyled material. Let us know if you
have one!
